Why do we not supply carpet for carpet patch repairs ?
Sometimes we get asked if we can supply the carpet for a patch repair or if we would recommend the client find a similar colour from a carpet shop.
The reason we dont can be seen in the below photos, the larger of the 2 burns was in a high traffic area and the spare carpet was taken from a dark cupboard so has not been subject to the same levels of UV or use, however because it is the exact same carpet and after some manual ageing the difference in shade will fully blend with time just as the surrounding carpet has then so will the patch.
The smaller burn is in a low traffic area and so is hardly visible right away due to low light and traffic etc.
Although less noticable on lighter shades of carpet we thought this was worth sharing as it is a great example of why you should only really use the same carpet for patch repairs.
Similar carpet obtained will not be from the same batch so there will be variations in shade which will be unlikely to blend with time.
We took some photos from different angles to show the impact of light and reflection off the carpet fibres.
